The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), committed to developing transportation improvements that best balance transportation needs, the environment, community concerns and cost, is holding a Virtual Public Information Center to inform residents and businesses of the proposed Route 93 and CR 501 (West Central Boulevard) Intersection Safety Improvement Project. Project Background

Background

Route 93 (Grand Avenue) provides an important link in the local and regional transportation network. Grand Avenue also serves as a transit route for NJ Transit buses, with bus stops on both sides of the highway. The intersection of Grand Avenue and County Route 501 (West Central Boulevard) is controlled by a traffic signal. Each approach to the intersection has a left turn lane, a through/right turn lane, sidewalks on both sides and crosswalks. The intersection experiences heavy traffic volumes and is part of the designated Truck Route system within Palisades Park. 

The purpose of this project is to improve the safety of all road users with particular emphasis on pedestrians by implementing proven safety enhancements. Crash studies performed at the intersection have identified higher than average crash rates, including crashes involving pedestrians. 

 

Estimated Schedule

  • Complete Concept Development: Summer 2027 
  • Complete Preliminary Engineering: 2029 
  • Complete Final Design: 2031 
  • Start Construction: 2032 
  • Complete Construction: 2033
